It is the idyllic atmosphere that draws so many, to the
beaches of Goa.
How can one resist the temptation of warm sunny skies, miles and miles of sandy
beach and clear blue water. Added to the mix is the sound of chirping birds,
palm trees, music and liquor –the perfect getaway for rest, relaxation and
respite from the daily routine.
It warmed my heart as I walked barefoot on the beach, with
the sound of the waves for company as the water danced between my feet making
them sink a little deeper in the sand.
I watched little children squeal in delight as they build
sand castles and marvelled at how they started all over again, whenever the
waves destroyed their handiwork.
I saw people of all ages, sprawled all over the beach,
sunbathing, strolling, swimming…hawkers, selling ice cream and snacks and souvenirs,
while others offered boat rides, para sailing and body massages…options that were
so hard to resist.
I took advantage of getting a massage by the beach – a truly
wonderful experience. But nothing could compare to the peace I felt, as I sat
with a cup of tea, overwhelmed, watching the sunset bring an end to over
another glorious day.
As darkness descended, I walked back to our hut by the
beach, but for many, the night had only just begun. The open bars by the beach beckoned,
with their flashing lights and candle lit tables as the sound of blaring music filled
the cool night air.
A holiday in Goa is all about
fun in the sun and booze before snooze and it was time to party!
