The Festival of lights

As we soon celebrate another Diwali, I am compelled to reflect on a few of my close friends for whom it will be just another day.

A day where the festival of lights has long lost its shimmer, its glow, that brings family and friends together. If anything, it is but a distant memory of what once was, while the present is filled with disillusionment, anger and pain.

But the optimist in me, still sees it as a time to let go of the past and begin a new chapter in their lives. I truly believe that every cloud has a silver lining and a spectacular rainbow will radiate in the sky after a seemingly endless downpour.

For those of us for whom the true spirit of Diwali, spreads in our homes and hearts as we share the day with loved ones, we are truly blessed.

While being thankful for our blessings, let us spare a thought and offer a prayer of  hope for those who are not so fortunate. Let us be supportive where we can be, even if it just to hold their hand in silence, or wipe the flood of tears of a breaking heart.

This Diwali, wouldn't it be wonderful if we all, in some way or another, helped to illuminate another person's life,in whatever way we can, letting them know, they are not alone, that this too shall pass and it will surely get better.

Let us spread happiness, spread  cheer and watch the splendour it will bring to this Festival of Lights.

Happy Diwali!
