Yes, mum was right, it is through his stomach!
The fact is that being young and in love is one thing, but it is only in romantic novels that you can live on love and fresh air! For one thing, you have to eventually come up for fresh air and then you need food to fulfill the hunger pangs.
I have to admit, when I was first married, my cooking skills left a lot to be desired. My husband complained and despite following recipes and step by step instructions that my mum gave over the phone, the end result was far from successful. Whenever my sister invited us for a meal, my husband was the first out the door. He relished every bite and constantly beseeched her to teach me.
However, in time, slowly but surely, I learnt and I heard less complaints and more compliments.
Years down the road now, the love is still alive, except that it is buried somewhere under my husband's unhealthy pot belly, proof that I have passed the test and can now pretty much hold my own, even when it comes to hosting a dinner.
But now I am faced with another dilemma....dishing up healthy recipies so that he loses that pot belly.
Imagine, all that time and hard work I put in to excel and create palatable dishes, has now been put on hold as my dishes focus on steamed veggies, low fat, less oil and simply less of everything!
Maybe living on love and fresh air was the best option after all!!
